The Environmental Protection Department today announced it recorded 39 convictions for pollution offences in January.

Eighteen convictions were under the Public Cleansing & Prevention of Nuisances Regulation, while nine were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance.

There were five convictions for air pollution, three for noise pollution, three for water pollution and one under the Product Eco-responsibility Ordinance.

The heaviest fine was $15,000 given to two companies and a building's incorporated owners for importing controlled waste without a permit and discharging waste or polluting matter into the water control zone.
