3 more vaccination centres to open

February 26, 2021

The COVID-19 Vaccination Programme's online booking system will reopen on Monday and three more community vaccination centres will be put into operation to meet public demand.

Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip made the announcement at a media session after inspecting the operation of the community vaccination centre at the Central Library with Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan on the programme's launch day.

Mr Nip said all five community vaccination centres operated smoothly this morning.

Following positive public feedback and demand for getting vaccinated as early as possible, the Government decided to accept online bookings again from 9am on Monday and open three more community vaccination centres.

Including the 18 Hospital Authority general outpatient clinics, a total of 200,000 vaccination quotas will be available for booking.

The three new vaccination centres at Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre, Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre and Yau Oi Sports Centre will operate from March 6 and tentatively run for 56 days to provide two doses of the Sinovac vaccine for each participant.

Mr Nip also noted that the Government will start distributing the Sinovac vaccine to private doctors on March 1 and people can receive the vaccination by the middle of next week at the earliest.

He said: "As regards the demand for vaccination, whether it is for the Sinovac vaccine or the BioNTech vaccine, the number of community vaccination centres we have planned for and also the private clinic network are sufficient for the planned capacity to have the population vaccinated.

"As we are operating the centres, we will closely monitor the situation, assess the demand and make necessary adjustments, just like we recently decided to add three additional community vaccination centres for about two months for the Sinovac vaccine."

The first batch of the BioNTech vaccine is expected to arrive in Hong Kong on February 27, he added.
