The Government may consider using the Octopus card, the most common stored value facility in Hong Kong, to implement the electronic consumption voucher scheme, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said today.

At a press conference this afternoon, Mr Chan elaborated on the voucher initiative announced in the 2021-22 Budget.

“As for the electronic consumption vouchers, we hope the scope could be as wide as possible.

“A lot of people are quite familiar with using the Octopus card which is the most common stored value facility in Hong Kong.

“So if we could use the Octopus card as one of the means to effect these consumption vouchers, I think it would also be acceptable to elderly members of the public.”
