The Hospital Authority today reported that an operation assistant at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and a medical doctor working at North District Hospital's intensive care unit have preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19.

The authority’s Chief Manager (Clinical Effectiveness & Technology Management) Dr Linda Yu told a press briefing that both staff members wore appropriate personal protective equipment during work and that no patients at the two hospitals have been identified as close contacts.

For the North District Hospital case, Dr Yu said as a precaution, arrangements will be made for patients and hospital staff at the intensive care unit and the Department of Medicine to undergo viral tests and medical surveillance.

She noted that the hospital is still investigating the source of the doctor's infection.

“We understand that the doctor has performed intubation for a confirmed case on January 5, but he wore full personal protective equipment with good infection control measures. So we do not know the source of this doctor’s infection and we are still pending further information.”
