The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 104 additional COVID-19 cases, adding people who had visited or stayed at a few specified premises during a certain period are subject to compulsory testing.
Speaking at a press briefing this afternoon, the centre’s Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan said there are 99 local cases, of which 64 are linked with previous ones while 35 have an unknown source of infection.
One of the new cases involves a Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel construction site worker. Five other workers at the site also tested preliminary positive for the virus.
“The workers use a container as a changing room and for resting purposes sometimes. So they may share some of the facilities and that is probably the reason for the small COVID-19 outbreak among them.”
About 1,400 workers at the site must undergo a virus test.
“There are many workers working there. That is why we are asking other workers to undergo testing as well, although they are not considered as close contacts at the moment.”
Four more cases were identified at Block 8 of Kwai Shing West Estate, taking the total number of cases at that block to 22. The cases involve eight 5/F units and five on other floors.
Dr Chuang noted the situation at Kwai Shing West Estate Block 8 was similar to Kam Wai House, Kam Fung Court in Ma On Shan. She said people who had stayed at either building for over two hours during a specified period are required to undergo testing.
A staff member at the Sha Tin branch of YATA department store was also confirmed infected with the virus in addition to four other cases recorded earlier. Those who had worked on level one and two of the store during a specified period have been ordered to get a virus test.
