The Centre for Health Protection today said that new clusters of COVID-19 cases were found at AsiaWorld-Expo and Kwai Shing West Estate.
At a press briefing this afternoon, the centre's Principal Medical & Health Officer Dr Albert Au explained that a care worker at a quarantine facility at AsiaWorld-Expo was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19, while two others had tested preliminary positive.
They are responsible for taking care of people who are under quarantine in Halls 5 and 7, and therefore around 100 quarantined people have to be moved to another hall. Virus tests will also be arranged for other staff there.
Dr Au said: "I think the risk of an outbreak among the care workers in this quarantine site is low because all the staff, they wear adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
"And after this incident, we will enhance the infection control training for the care staff and also enhance other infection control measures.
"However, as this is a quarantine site, from time to time, there will be confirmed cases arising, so it is very important that the care staff there know that there will be substantial risk and they should wear proper PPE all the time during their work, so we will follow up with the Social Welfare Department to monitor the situation."
Dr Au added that the centre found another cluster at Block 8 of Kwai Shing West Estate.
"So far there are five units on the same floor with confirmed cases amounting to a total of 12 cases. Because they are family members, it is likely that some of the patients of the cases acquired the infections from their family members.
"In view of the situation, we will distribute specimen bottles to and arrange testing for all the residents of this building.
"At the present moment, we postulate that the patients of the cases may have acquired the infections through contact with others in the building or through contact with a contaminated environment, so we have liaised with the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department to conduct thorough disinfection of the building, especially the fifth floor, and also liaised with the Housing Department to conduct some investigations to see if there are other factors that have led to the outbreak there."
The Government has also arranged for the contractor, BGI, to conduct free throat and nasopharyngeal swab test for them at the Kwai Shing Community Hall tomorrow.
For the well being of the residents and public health safety, the Government called on the co-operation of all residents of Block 8 to participate in the testing and stay home until the results of the tests are available, so as to prevent the risk of spreading the virus in the community.
The Government has also arranged delivery of food packs by Yan Chai Hospital Social Services Department to the elderly living at Block 8 to facilitate them to stay home.
Dr Au also said that the centre is investigating a total of 95 additional COVID-19 cases today, of which 87 are locally transmitted and eight are imported.
Among the local cases, 51 are linked with previous cases and 36 could not be traced.
Eighteen of the linked cases belong to the dance club cluster while nine are related to a LOHAS Park construction site in Tseung Kwan O.
