Unemployment support extended

November 30, 2020

The Government will extend measures to relax Comprehensive Social Security Assistance asset limits by 100% for able-bodied people for six months ending May 31, 2021.

The Social Welfare Department said the extension aims to maintain the support for unemployed people with immediate financial difficulties.

The time-limited unemployment support was provided through the CSSA system as part of the second-round of anti-epidemic measures.

Starting from June 1 this year, the department has temporarily relaxed the CSSA asset limits for able-bodied adult singletons, and able-bodied adults and children under family cases by 100% for six months till November 30.

The arrangement was extended as part of the third round of anti-epidemic measures and the related funding was approved on September 28.

These asset limits will be restored to the original levels starting June 1, 2021.
