Taking into account Hong Kong’s economy and market scale, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said in her policy speech today that the youth unemployment rate may remain at double digits, but that the Greater Bay Area, with a population of 70 million and huge development potential, can provide youths with career development opportunities.

She said the Government will launch the Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme to encourage enterprises in both Hong Kong and the bay area to recruit and deploy 2,000 local university graduates to work in those Mainland cities.

For those hoping to start their own business, the Home Affairs Bureau will launch a $100 million funding scheme for about 200 youth startups in Hong Kong and other Mainland cities in the bay area.

The Government will also establish the Alliance of Hong Kong Youth Innovative & Entrepreneurial Bases in the bay area to serve as a one-stop information, publicity and exchange platform for Hong Kong youth there.
