Cantonese Opera Day on Nov 29

November 18, 2020

The 18th Cantonese Opera Day will be held on November 29 at the Cultural Centre.

Free admission tickets will be distributed from 9am on November 23 at the Cultural Centre's enquiry counter on a first-come, first-served basis.

The ticket distribution counter will be open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 9pm.

Each person may choose a maximum of any two programmes. They can obtain a maximum of two tickets for a Cantonese opera excerpt showcase (1.30pm to 5pm), with marked-seat tickets to be distributed randomly; and one free-seating ticket for each demonstration or talk session.

Organised by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, the event will feature a variety of activities including Cantonese opera excerpts, makeup, costume and headwear-making demonstrations, talks on Cantonese opera music with two generations of Cantonese opera artists engaging in dialogue, and a Cantonese opera exhibition from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.

Since 2003, the cultural sectors of Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong have designated the last Sunday of every November as Cantonese Opera Day to promote the valuable vernacular art of Cantonese opera.
