Secretary for Innovation & Technology Alfred Sit today said user data from the LeaveHomeSafe COVID-19 exposure notification mobile app will be protected.

Mr Sit was speaking to the media after attending a radio programme this morning.

He said: “We have three steps in protecting data privacy. The download of the app is voluntary. People can download the app at their own discretion. When they go to some premises, it’s also up to them, up to their own discretion, to scan the QR code or not. Also, all the data is contained in their telephone.

“There’s no central system to record all the data. For all the data contained in the telephone, it will be erased automatically in 31 days.”
