No plan to shelve fare scheme

October 24, 2020

The Government has no plan to shelve the extension of the $2 transport fare concession scheme to cover people aged between 60 and 64, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong said today.

Speaking to reporters this morning, Dr Law said the Government is still working on the plan and aims to launch it in the next financial year.

“We are still working at full steam in examining the report from our consultant looking at the $2 transport fare concession scheme.”

He pointed out the Government has recently briefed Executive Council members on the issue.

“We will definitely look at their views, analyse and examine the different options.

“We have no plan of shelving it, although we cannot tell exactly at what time we can do it.

“Our current target is to attempt to implement the improvement of the various aspects of the scheme in the next financial year 2021-2022.”
