Customs officer tests positive

August 25, 2020

Customs today said a Customs Officer has tested positive for COVID-19.

The officer mainly performed logistic duties at the China Ferry Terminal and did not have contact with members of the public.

He last performed duties on August 23 and sought medical treatment at a hospital on August 24 because he felt unwell. Isolation treatment is being arranged for him after he tested positive for the virus this evening.

The officer, who has no recent travel history, wore surgical masks and properly maintained social distancing with people while on duty. His body temperature was normal during work.

Customs has liaised with the Centre for Health Protection for arranging officers who have worked with him to undergo COVID-19 testing. The working places concerned have been thoroughly cleaned and sterilised.

Cleaning and sterilising measures for all working locations of the department will also be stepped up.
