DH nurse initially tests positive

August 12, 2020

The Department of Health today announced that a nurse of its Office for Regulation of Private Healthcare Facilities Licensing Division has preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19.

The nurse is responsible for processing licence applications for private healthcare facilities. The offices in Wan Chai and Taikoo Shing where she worked were closed immediately for thorough cleaning and disinfection until further notice.

She had no recent travel history and last performed duties on August 11. In the evening of the same day, she was notified of the preliminary positive result by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP).

Her body temperature was normal before commencing duty and she wore a mask and followed relevant disease prevention measures at work.

In the past 14 days of her duty, she mainly stayed in the office without any contact with the public and did not take part in inspections of private healthcare facilities.

The department said epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing by the CHP are ongoing.

One staff member has been listed as a close contact so far and will be quarantined, while virus testing has been arranged for other colleagues who worked with the nurse.

During the closure of the offices concerned, members of the public may submit licence applications via the e-Licensing system or by post.
