Slaughterhouse measures boosted

July 31, 2020

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department today said that only people who have tested negative for COVID-19 will be allowed to enter Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse starting August 1.

There are so far a total of 10 cases of the virus related to the slaughterhouse, involving seven confirmed cases and three people who preliminarily tested positive.

Aside from the three preliminarily confirmed cases announced on July 30, testing results for other cases are all negative.

The department has arranged COVID-19 testing for government staff and stakeholders, including the operator, importers, buyers and transportation companies, working in the slaughterhouse.

It stressed that members of the public should not worry about the food safety of meat slaughtered at the facility.

Nevertheless, the Centre for Food Safety reminded the public to maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times.
