The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 145 additional COVID-19 cases, taking the number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong to 2,779.

Among the new cases, 142 are locally transmitted, 83 are linked to previous ones, 59 are those with unknown sources of infection, while three are imported.

The centre said it may take longer to conduct epidemiological investigations and relevant contact tracing due to the soaring numbers of confirmed cases recently.

Additionally, the Hospital Authority reported that 1,014 confirmed COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalised and 1,486 confirmed and suspected patients have been discharged.
