113 COVID-19 cases reported

July 22, 2020

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 113 additional COVID-19 cases, taking the number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong to 2,132.

Among the new cases, eight are imported and 105 are locally transmitted.

Forty-two local cases are linked to previous ones while 63 are those with unknown sources of infection.

The centre explained that some patients were infected after joining gatherings with family or friends. It advised people to avoid gatherings, especially those involving the elderly as they have weak immunity.

Additionally, the Hospital Authority reported that 645 confirmed COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalised and 1,344 confirmed and suspected patients have been discharged.

Meanwhile, starting today, the arrangement for people under 14-day compulsory quarantine to collect and submit their deep throat saliva samples for COVID-19 testing will be advanced to the 10th day, so that testing results can be released before they complete the quarantine.
