Courts to resume July 22

July 21, 2020

The Judiciary today announced that all court and tribunal hearings scheduled from tomorrow onwards will generally proceed as planned unless otherwise directed by the court.

Relevant parties will be notified and given directions where necessary. Registries and accounts offices at all court levels will also reopen.

Hearings will be spaced out to reduce crowd gathering and people flow in court premises.

The measure will inevitably reduce the number of court hearings and volume of business handled by the court and tribunal registries and accounts offices.

For civil proceedings at the High Court, District and Family courts, parties may in suitable cases be directed to use alternative disposal modes, including paper disposal and remote hearings via video-conferencing facilities or phones.

All court users, particularly those in the Family Court, should check whether their cases will proceed before they come to court.

Capacity limits will continue to be imposed on courtrooms, court lobbies and registry areas in court buildings.

The canteen in the High Court Building and the tuck shop in the West Kowloon Law Courts Building will remain closed.
