May exports down 7.4%

The value of Hong Kong's total exports decreased to $317.6 billion in May, down 7.4% compared with the same month last year, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.

 

The value of imports of goods dropped 12.3% to $331.3 billion year-on-year in the same period.

 

A trade deficit of $13.7 billion, or 4.1% of the value of imports, was recorded for the month.

 

Comparing the three-month period ending May with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the value of exports rose 5.1%, while that of imports increased 1.7%.
