Allowance for workers extended

June 16, 2020

The Government today announced that the monthly $1,000 allowance under the Anti-epidemic Fund for outsourced cleaning and security workers of the Government and the Housing Authority will be provided for a further three months.

Under the original measure, frontline cleaning workers, toilet attendants and security workers employed by contractors can receive a monthly allowance of $1,000 for a period of no fewer than four months throughout the epidemic period.

Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Christopher Hui said the Government has decided to extend the measure to cover such workers who will perform duties in July, August and September.

“This is to give due recognition to our outsourced frontline workers for their committed services provided at this critical juncture, and to continue our support for their anti-epidemic efforts."

Mr Hui added that there is a need for anti-epidemic measures to remain as the COVID-19 situation may fluctuate.

Departments will give the allowance to the workers concerned through contractors every month. Workers do not need to submit applications.
