Reduce & Recycle 2.0 kicks off

The Environment Bureau’s ambassador Big Waster will partner with his new buddy Greeny to promote the concept of save more, recycle more.
The Government today launched the Reduce & Recycle 2.0 Campaign to encourage the public to go green and support green recovery and a circular economy while fighting COVID-19.
Apart from promoting waste reduction at source, the campaign will step up calls to make good use of the community recycling network and practise the concept of save more, recycle more.
The Environmental Protection Department is expanding its recycling network by adding outlets in the community and collecting more recyclable types, including glass bottles, fluorescent lamps and tubes, rechargeable batteries, small electrical appliances, and regulated waste electrical and electronic equipment.
The campaign, a collaboration with the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC), will promote various themes in phases. The first phase highlights different types of recyclables and the community recycling network. This phase will last for about three months.
The campaign’s second phase will focus on raising public awareness of plastic-free living and encouraging people to avoid single-use plastic tableware and packaging materials.
It will also focus on promoting food waste recycling to tie in with Hong Kong’s new milestone of converting food waste into energy.
A new character, Greeny, will partner with the Environment Bureau’s ambassador, Big Waster, to promote the save more, recycle more concept. Along with online games and exhibitions, the duo will educate the public on waste reduction and recycling.
