No new COVID-19 cases in HK

May 28, 2020

The Centre for Health Protection announced that as of 4pm today, no new COVID-19 cases have been recorded, leaving the number of confirmed cases in Hong Kong at 1,066 so far.

The centre is investigating an overseas case involving a 66-year-old woman who travelled to Spain from March 2 to May 20 and the UK from May 20 to 26.

She transited from London to Amsterdam and arrived in Hong Kong on May 27 on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight KL887 in economy class.

The woman had developed malaise and a loss of smell and taste on March 26. She received a positive test result for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Spain on March 28.

Upon arrival in Hong Kong, she was transferred directly from Hong Kong International Airport to North Lantau Hospital and subsequently admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital for management. Her respiratory specimen tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. She is currently in a stable condition.

The centre has contacted the health authority in Spain to obtain more information about the case.

It again urged the public to maintain an appropriate social distance from other people to minimise the risk of infection.

People should go out less and avoid social activities such as having meals out or other gatherings to minimise the risk of coronavirus clusters emerging in the community, it added.

As the COVID-19 situation remains severe and the number of cases reported around the world continues to rise, people are strongly urged to avoid all non-essential travel outside Hong Kong as well as maintain strict personal and environmental hygiene.

Additionally, the Hospital Authority reported that 28 patients confirmed with COVID-19 are currently hospitalised and 1,035 confirmed and suspected patients have been discharged.
