Winter flu season ends
February 13, 2020
The Centre for Health Protection today announced the end of the winter influenza season.
The flu season began in early January with activity peaking late that month and returning to the baseline level in early February.
The predominating virus of this season was influenza A(H1).
For adults, 182 cases of influenza-associated admissions to intensive care units or deaths were reported, with 113 deaths. There were six severe paediatric cases with no deaths reported for the period.
Although the winter influenza season has ended, the centre reminded people to adopt strict personal, hand and environmental hygiene practices against respiratory illnesses and other infectious diseases.
