Elector inquiry letters issued
The Registration & Electoral Office (REO) has appealed to electors who received inquiry letters to reply as soon as possible by May 2 via post, fax or email.
From today until April, the REO will issue inquiry letters to 90,000 electors to confirm or update their registered addresses.
By replying to the letters, electors can maintain their voter registration status and vote in the Legislative Council General Election to be held in the third quarter and at subsequent public elections.
If the REO does not receive a valid reply from an elector under inquiry, the name of the elector will be included in the omissions list to be published on or before June 1.
Electors included in the omissions list have to reply to the reminding letter or lodge a claim before June 25 as well as obtain the approval of the Revising Officer before they can maintain their voter registration status, be included in the final register of electors to be published in July, and be able to vote in the Legislative Council General Election to be held in the third quarter.
The REO had also issued enquiry letters on December 13 last year to 70,000 electors selected through random sampling, with the original reply deadline as specified on the letter falling on January 31.
In view of the temporary suspension of Hongkong Post postal services from January 29 to February 2 due to the situation arising from the novel coronavirus, the REO has extended the enquiry letter reply deadline to February 14.
Electors who have received the enquiry letters can also submit their replies through email or fax in addition to by post.
