Violent protests strongly condemned

August 4, 2019

In response to the protests in Tseung Kwan O, Western District and Causeway Bay yesterday, the Government strongly condemns violent and illegal acts.

The Government made the statement today, saying that following the illegal and violent protests in Yau Tsim Mong and Wong Tai Sin on Saturday and early yesterday morning, Tseung Kwan O Police Station was vandalised and roads in Western District were blocked yesterday afternoon.

A lot of protesters assembled around Causeway Bay at night, blocking both directions of the Cross-Harbour Tunnel again, damaging police vehicles and traffic lights, attacking police officers and even committing arson.

The deteriorating situation yesterday once again underlined that violent and illegal protests are spreading, pushing Hong Kong to the verge of a very dangerous situation. The Government said it strongly condemned such acts.

The Government also appealed to the public to say no to violence to restore order in society as soon as possible.
