No social credit system in HK

July 9, 2019

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today said it will not implement the social credit system in Hong Kong.

In a statement tonight, The Hong Kong SAR Government clarified that the claims made by Taiwan media reports and some online platforms saying the Mainland's social credit system will be implemented in the city are totally unfounded.

The Hong Kong SAR Government noted the Guangdong Province published a three-year action plan for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on July 5, which mentioned speeding up the establishment of the social credit system in Guangdong.

It added the action plan will only apply to Guangdong Province.
