Watermelon festival set

July 3, 2019

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department today introduced three highlighted varieties of organic watermelons to be sold at the Local Organic Watermelon Festival.

The three watermelon varieties were introduced from Japan, Australia and Taiwan.

Hami Yellow Flesh, a newly introduced variety from Japan this year, is oblong in shape and features a green skin with stripes and a yellowish orange flesh.

The spherical Super Sweet Black Angel 168 with its green striped skin and bright crimson-coloured flesh is a juicy variety.

While the oblong-shaped Diana has an intense red flesh encased under a bright yellow striped skin and is remarkably sweet.

Agricultural Officer Chen Yi-min said these varieties adapt well to Hong Kong's summer climate and promise high yields of quality fruit.

The Local Organic Watermelon Festival will be held at various farmers’ markets this month.
