The Experimental Theatre of Liyuan Opera of Fujian will perform in Hong Kong in June as part of the Chinese Opera Festival.

Originating from Quanzhou, Fujian, Liyuan opera is one of the oldest theatrical genres with a history dating back more than 800 years.

The experimental theatre will showcase Liyuan opera in three streams, featuring the plays Zhu Maichen, Li Yaxian, Lu Mengzheng and Liu Zhiyuan in the Quanzhou dialect.

The performances will be staged from June 28 to 30 at Hong Kong City Hall.

Chinese and English subtitles will be provided.
