Chinese opera festival set

April 12, 2019

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will hold the Chinese Opera Festival from June 13 to August 18.

The West Kowloon Cultural District's Xiqu Centre will jointly present some of the programmes at its venues to bring a new experience to the audience.

Performances by the China National Peking Opera Company and the Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company will open the festival.

Other highlights include Kunqu and Yue operas as well as regional genres of Liyuan and Ou operas.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the inscription of Cantonese opera onto the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a concert featuring indigenous musical art forms of Guangdong and a new play A Love Poem Stained with Blood will be staged.

There will also be lectures, film screenings, meet-the-artists sessions and exhibitions.

Tickets will be available from April 17 at URBTIX and the Xiqu Centre Ticket Office.
