Secretary for the Environment KS Wong visited Sham Shui Po today.

Mr Wong, accompanied by two secondary students participating in the Be a Government Official for a Day programme, first visited So Uk Estate.

The first phase of the estate’s redevelopment project, which conserves aspects of its culture and architectural heritage including a pergola with mural ceiling paintings and its entrance portico, was completed in 2016.

The estate also uses a solar photovoltaic system and an energy monitoring system which shows the average household electricity and water consumption.

Mr Wong then visited Food Angel where he helped prepare meals to be given to the elderly and low-income families with young volunteers.

The organisation offers free meals to the needy by using surplus ingredients collected from restaurants.

Mr Wong encouraged Food Angel volunteers to cherish food and make optimal use of resources.

He concluded his visit by meeting Sham Shui Po District Council members.

Mr Wong also hoped the two secondary students taking part in the visit could gain a better understanding of the Government's work and environmental policies.
