Yue opera to be staged

The Chinese Opera Festival, presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, will feature Yue opera in July.

 

Also known as Shaoxing opera, Yue opera originates from Shengzhou in Shaoxing city of Zhejiang Province and is usually performed by an all-female cast.

 

It is known for its lyrical singing and its subtle and tender melodies.

 

Performances including Qu Yuan, How a Dead Cat was Substituted for a New-born Prince and The Lady General Mu Guiying Leads Her Army to War will be held from July 19 to July 21 at the Cultural Centre.

 

The performance of Three Glimpses of the Princess will be held at Tuen Mun Town Hall on July 22.

 

A meet-the-artists session, held in Putonghua, will take place at the Cultural Centre on July 18.
