March warmer than usual

April 4, 2018

The weather in Hong Kong was warmer than usual in March.

The Hong Kong Observatory said the mean temperature for the month was 20.8 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees above the normal temperature of 19.1 degrees.

It was also relatively dry, with only 22.7mm of monthly rainfall, which was about 28% of the normal figure of 82.2 mm.

The accumulated rainfall for the first three months of the year was 89.4mm, about 45% below the normal figure for the same period.

Under the influence of a cold front which moved across Guangdong coastal areas on the night of March 5, cold weather persisted with 11.1 degrees recorded on March 9, the lowest temperature of the month.

As winds gradually turned easterly, a moister maritime airstream brought cloudier skies to Hong Kong on March 24. The weather remained generally fine and warm in late March, with 27.9 degrees recorded on March 30, the highest of the month.
