New green burial website launched

March 30, 2018

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has launched a new website on green burial to give the public more information about green burial options.

The new website adopts a clear and simple design to provide a one-stop information hub.

It includes application procedures, locations of the Gardens of Remembrance, as well as designated areas for scattering cremated human ashes at sea and associated ferry services.

People can also browse the website on mobile phones and tablet computers.

The department said green burial is a more environmentally friendly and sustainable means of ash disposal, stating promotion efforts made by the Government are yielding results.

The number of green burial cases handled by the department in 2017 accounted for about 12.9% of the total number of deaths in Hong Kong, a significant increase compared to 4.6% in 2010.
