All issues can be discussed: CS

September 07, 2012
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has reiterated that the terms of reference of the Committee on the Implementation of Moral & National Education is wide, adding that all issues can be discussed, and suggestions can be raised, at the committee's meetings.

Speaking to the media today, Mrs Lam said she is glad committee chairman Anna Wu will try to convene a committee meeting as soon as possible, and afterwards submit a report to Government.

She said she respects schools' autonomy in their choice of teaching materials and teaching methods, and their choice on when and how to start the curriculum.

Noting parents’ concern, she said she welcomes their monitoring of the committee, saying the Government will co-operate with them.

Funding will be allocated to various organisations, including parents’ groups, students, and tertiary institutions, to devise the teaching materials, so they are as diversified as possible.

Mrs Lam clarified that her becoming emotional during a recent television interview had no relation to the national education issue. She said was moved because a group of people have no confidence and trust in the Government, only suspicion.
