CE not above the law: SJ

(September 17, 2015)

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen says the Chief Executive has never been and will never be above the law, and no-one is suggesting otherwise.

Speaking to the media in Beijing today, Mr Yuen said the Chief Executive has been and will continue to be monitored by the legislature and the Judiciary.

The Basic Law is clear that the Chief Executive is the head of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Yuen said, adding that in that capacity he represents the HKSAR.

"The Chief Executive is the head of the HKSAR Government. In that sense, the position of the Chief Executive is very clearly set out in Hong Kong. No-one is suggesting that the Chief Executive is above the law. The Chief Executive has been and will continue to be subject to monitoring by the legislature and the Judiciary."
