Since the return of Hong Kong to the Motherland, the city has been exercising a high degree of autonomy and “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong” in accordance with the Basic Law.
The Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau issued the statement tonight in response to the annual US-China Economic & Security Review Commission report.
The bureau noted the report recognises that Hong Kong remains an important global financial hub, the world's second largest recipient of foreign direct investment inflows and the third largest Asian source of foreign direct investment.
It said the high degree of autonomy Hong Kong enjoys in accordance with the Basic Law demonstrates the successful implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle, which is widely recognised by the international community.
It also urged foreign parties not to interfere in Hong Kong's internal affairs.
