Official unaware of illegal works

November 26, 2012
Director of Housing Duncan Pescod says he is unaware of his Sai Kung property having any unauthorised building structures on it when he bought it, and he has not installed any additional structures.

In a statement issued today in response to media enquiries, Mr Pescod said he and his wife bought the property in 2008 as an investment, and planned to use it as their retirement home.

To ease public concern, Mr Pescod said he has appointed a building contractor to remove a glass canopy and an awning on the property. The work will be completed today. A thorough check will be conducted, and he will take follow-up action as necessary.

He said the purchase was handled by their lawyers and the property was inspected for valuation purposes. No adverse reports were received.

He said he has no professional training in building works, and was not aware of any unauthorised building structures on the property when it was purchased. Since the purchase, the property has been let out. They have never lived there and have visited it only infrequently. He said he has decorated the property and conducted repairs as requested by the tenant, and has not installed any additional structures on it.
