CE clarifies property issues
November 23, 2012
Chief Executive CY Leung today issued a statement on his property on The Peak, which he hopes will clear misunderstandings and bring the matter to a close so he can focus on his work.
A news report in June said unauthorised building works were found on his property.
He said he attaches great importance to the matter and has been handling it in an open, transparent and serious manner. He has co-operated with the Buildings Department to allow inspections of the property, and appointed a professional team to help clarify and solve the problems on it.
"As the matter has entered into legal proceedings in the past few months, I have acted on legal advice not to make any comment during this period. I was therefore unable to give a timely response, much against my own wishes.
"Today, the legal proceedings have been cleared. I immediately issued a written statement on the matter to give a full, complete and detailed account to the public. I hope it will clarify the facts and address the concerns of the community.”
Mr Leung said based on professional advice and available records, documents and photos, he has tried his best to give an objective and comprehensive explanation. He said he purchased the property 13 years ago and cannot rely solely on memory to provide a full account.
He added he will provide supplementary responses in writing after seeking professional advice and search records if there are follow-up questions.
