Education funds approved

(July 19, 2017)

The Legislative Council Finance Committee has approved the Government's $3.6 billion funding request to implement a package of priority measures to support quality education.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam unveiled the plan to legislators earlier this month.

Speaking to the media after the funding approval today, Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung said the Chief Executive had met with different stakeholders before forming the package, so the measures were drawn up with the valuable opinions of the education sector in mind.

He said the Government hopes to continue such co-operation with the field.

Noting some legislators raised many suggestions during the meeting, Mr Yeung said the Government will consider their feedback when it reviews the education system.

He hopes the relationship between the administration and the legislature continues to improve, he added.
