CE calls for livelihood funds

(July 18, 2017)

Chief Executive Carrie Lam has called on legislators to approve all of the Government's funding requests at the last Finance Committee meeting tomorrow before the Legislative Council's summer recess.

Speaking to the media before today's Executive Council meeting, Mrs Lam said the Government has reduced the number of funding items on the Finance Committee agenda from 18 to eight.

She said the items include civil service pay rises, the $3.6 billion needed to implement the Government’s quality education package, and 16 public works projects which amount to $76 billion and will offer nearly 10,000 job opportunities for the construction industry.

She said these are important livelihood issues which must be addressed as soon as possible.
