Police won't tolerate violence

October 04, 2014

Police do not tolerate violence and its officers have been doing their best to ensure public safety in Mong Kok.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheung Tak-keung made the statement at a press conference today, rejecting allegations that Police allowed triads to cause trouble at the Mong Kok protest site.

He said Police adopted appropriate measures to separate the crowds by setting a buffer area to prevent further injuries.

Officers from other Police regions were deployed to reinforce officers in Mong Kok.

Noting that the situation is difficult for Police due to the high number of people at the site, Mr Cheung called on people gathering in Mong Kok to behave in a peaceful manner.

Police will continue to monitor the situation and deploy resources to handle it, he added.
