Security chief rejects triad claims

October 04, 2014

Secretary for Security TK Lai today refuted claims the Government allowed triads to cause trouble at the Mong Kok protest site yesterday and this morning.

Noting that some people have criticised Police for failing to protect Occupy Central protestors in clashes that erupted in Mong Kok, Mr Lai said Police have worked hard to protect the people at the site.

Such criticisms are unfounded and unfair to Police who have been handling the situation fairly, arresting 19 people yesterday.

He said the Government condemns violence, adding that Hong Kong is a lawful society and every citizen should abide by the law.

Police will continue to enforce the law faithfully and truthfully, he noted.
