The Customs & Excise Department has arrested two men and two women aged 31 to 65, after seizing 126kg of powdered formula worth $30,000 in an anti-smuggling crackdown.
Customs officers yesterday seized a batch of formula at a stall near San Wan Road in Sheung Shui, and arrested a man and a woman.
A man was also arrested at Lo Wu Control Point when he attempted to smuggle formula out of Hong Kong.
Officers later searched a warehouse in an industrial building in Sheung Shui and found more formula, and arrested another woman.
The syndicate ordered formula from overseas and had it air-freighted to Hong Kong. It was then stored in the syndicate's warehouse before distribution to general merchandise operators controlled by the syndicate. The operators then tried to export the formula.
