Formula meeting held

April 17, 2014

The Food & Health Bureau today met with representatives of seven major powdered formula suppliers, the General Chamber of Pharmacy and major chain stores to urge that they ensure sufficient supply of powdered formula for local infants during the upcoming Labour Day long weekend.

They briefed the Government on the progress of improvements to the formula supply chain, and on measures to ensure sufficient supply.

They said they have reserved sufficient stock for local infants to cope with orders from various pre-ordering channels. They have also strengthened support measures, including more frequent replenishment of stock if needed, and boosting manpower manning hotlines.

On the Coupon Scheme, the suppliers and the pharmacies will continue to promote the scheme through various channels. The suppliers have also incorporated anti-counterfeit features into the coupon design.

The bureau said demand for formula during the Labour Day long weekend may be strong, and urged the suppliers and retailers to implement improvement measures and to get fully prepared.

The bureau has commissioned a consultant to conduct regular surveys on the supply and price levels of formula at the local retail level.
