More than 100 injured in ferry mishap

More than 100 passengers on board a high-speed craft en route from Macau to Hong Kong were injured when the vessel apparently collided with an uknown object in the water outside Siu A Chau off Lantau at about 6pm last evening.


By around midnight,112 passengers had reached the Central Pier, while 51 others remained on the craft, awaiting transport. Ambulance staff have provided basic care and dressing to those injured.

 

The Government Flying Service will carry the injured to urban areas for treatment.

 

Staff from the Marine and Fire Services Departments, the Marine Police and the shipping company are providing assistance.

 

Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung and Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man visited some of the injured at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

 

Prof Cheung expressed his sorrow over the incident, adding the Marine Department is investigating its cause.
