Bridge incident to be followed up

October 24, 2015

The Government attaches great importance to a collision at Kap Shui Mun Bridge last night which led to a two-hour emergency closure of the bridge and suspension of the Airport Railway services.

In a statement issued today, the Government said the relevant departments had adopted swift response measures.

The Chief Executive and Secretary for Transport & Housing convened an inter-departmental meeting this morning to learn more about the situation from the Transport Department, the Highways Department and the Airport Authority, and to discuss follow-up actions.

The Highways Department will carry out a more detailed inspection to ensure the bridge's safety.

The Transport & Housing Bureau, the Transport Department, the Airport Authority, the MTR Corporation and relevant government departments will draw experience from the incident to further improve emergency response arrangements.

The Marine Department and the Police will investigate the incident and ascertain relevant liabilities.

The Director of Highways and Deputy Commissioner for Transport also held a press conference to report on the incident last night.
