The Department of Health is monitoring three more Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases, in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
According to the World Health Organisation, the Emirates patient is a man aged 68 from Abu Dhabi. He fell ill on March 1, was hospitalised on March 3, and is now stable. He had no travel history nor contact with confirmed patients, but had had contact with animals - including camels on a farm which he owns and visits daily.
The Saudi Arabian cases involve a man aged 51, who fell ill on February 28 and was hospitalised on March 2, and a woman aged 56, who was hospitalised on February 25 and died on March 3. Both are from Riyadh. The man had had exposure to animals.
The latest global number of confirmed cases has increased to 189, including 82 deaths.
The department will seek more information on the cases from the WHO and the relevant health authorities.
No human infection with this virus has been identified in Hong Kong.
