Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So started his Australian visit in Melbourne today by meeting business leaders and a state official.
Speaking at a boardroom lunch held by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia, Mr So said Australia and Hong Kong have long enjoyed strong economic, trade and people-to-people links.
He said Hong Kong has the experience, expertise and connections to serve as the fund-raising and financial management hub for China's "One Belt, One Road" initiatives, adding foreign investors will benefit from the initiatives by establishing a foothold in Hong Kong.
Mr So then visited a co-working space and a non-profit organisation dedicated to building and supporting Victoria's start-up ecosystem.
He also attended a discussion with the local start-up community residing in the co-working space, during which he introduced Hong Kong's start-up landscape as well as the opportunities and support the city provides for start-ups.
He later met Victoria's Minister for Small Business, Innovation & Trade Philip Dalidakis.
Tonight he will attend a dinner gathering with Hong Kong people living and working in Melbourne.
