5 beaches reopened

August 11, 2017

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today the reopening of five beaches after considering the progress of their palm stearin cleanup operations.

They are Upper Cheung Sha, Lower Cheung Sha and Tong Fuk beaches in Islands District, as well as Middle Bay and Turtle Cove beaches in Southern District.

The oil content of water samples collected from the beaches remains at a low level.

Government departments will continue to monitor the situation and enhance the cleanup operations to reopen the remaining beaches as soon as possible.

As of noon today, 178 tonnes of palm stearin had been recovered.
