Recycling fund a policy breakthrough

(October 10, 2015)

The Recycling Fund is a breakthrough in policy, which can support the recycling industry's sustainable development, Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says.

Speaking to the media today, Mr Wong said the Government has taken a holistic approach for the industry's healthy development, with supporting policies on areas ranging from land, training to manpower.

The fund also provides flexibility to take into account the trade's wisdom, and can handle proposals that fit into the local context and situation.

He also added that it is too early to comment on the response to the fund, as it was formally launched on Tuesday.

Mr Wong also said he wanted to have discussions with the trade and stakeholders on a proposed increase in construction waste disposal fees in the coming months, and implement the policy next year after consulting the Legislative Council.
