Illegal dumping under watch

(October 07, 2015)
Secretary for the Environment KS Wong inspected a video surveillance system newly installed at fly-tipping blackspot Tai Shui Hang Refuse Collection Point today. The system was installed to combat fly-tipping, or illegal dumping, of construction waste.
The Environmental Protection Department has launched a pilot scheme to install surveillance systems at 12 fly-tipping blackspots to enhance monitoring of the problem and collect evidence.
The systems can identify vehicles involved in fly-tipping and track down offenders, facilitating investigation and prosecution. It can also serve as a deterrent.
The department has also formed an inter-departmental co-ordination mechanism to facilitate collaboration in monitoring of fly-tipping blackspots, exchanging intelligence, co-ordinating enforcement action and clearing fly-tipped waste.
